Let's Use Our X-ray Vision, Shall We?

"See the likeness of God in each person I meet." Not just the ones we are happy to meet. Each person we meet. Hmmm...I don't know about you but, for me, this is perhaps one of God's most difficult requests. There are quite a lot of people who drive me absolutely nuts! The ones nearest and dearest to me are the ones who know how to push every button I have. They are the ones I've been staring at now for quite a good many years day in and day out. And I don't even see the God in them anymore most times.

That is not to say God is not there - I just don't take the time to delve far enough below the surface to excavate Him. Life is way too busy. My patience is way too thin. Both excuses, of course.

Today I began to try harder to see the God in those closest to me. It was pretty darn easy when my little toe-headed boys were much younger. So cute. So sweet. God bubbled from them. But now my children are 18-23. The ripples of God are definitely in each of them but He's wearing camo sometimes. And as for their dad, well, He sports a Ghillie Suit!

So I try. Today I try. Tomorrow I will try. I will think "mercy." I will think "compassion." And if I'm thinking them, maybe, just maybe, I'll say them, too.

God and Moms ~ 24/7

As a mom one of my biggest wishes is that my children always trust me. I laid the groundwork from the first moments of their lives and continue to this day. Feeding them, changing diapers, listening wholeheartedly to a concern, teaching them to drive: it's all the same thing. We parents are saying we care and we are there for our children no matter what.

We must realize God feels the same way about us no matter what we do. God knows our thoughts before we do. Kind of like when our youngsters walk in looking guilty as sin; we know exactly what they've done (or pretty close), but have to wait until they come clean. When they do confess they feel better and we forgive. It's an endless circle - sin, confess, forgive. And it all means love.

Hopefully as we get older we are a bit more experienced and have to go to God less and less to confess as we attempt to get this thing called, "Life," right. Know that God is always there for you to help and guide you.

I hope you are walking closer to God during this Lenten time of reflection. Sometimes it's hard but always, it's worth it. Good luck on your journey.
